Giveaway! Calico Brides by Darlene Franklin!

Welcome back to Writing for Christ Darlene Franklin, I am excited to have you here for a second time. :- )

What has changed in your writing life since you were last here?

May was a very busy month, with three books coming out, including my first ever self-published novella (Barncastle Memorial). I also took part in Love Inspired’s  “Happily Editor After” speed date last month, and they have requested a proposal from me.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that I have been put on ( temporary) bedrest and have decided I need to adjust my writing goals to accept the reality that I am likely to be “down” during the writing process for any book—so I need to cut back on my goals to allow for ill health. I HATE doing that, but even wor
se to not be able to meet a deadline.

What recent read stood out to you as truly spectacular?

I recently finished Blowing on Dandelions  by Miralee Ferrell.  Not the typical romance, with an insightful look at a fractured between mother and daughter, it really impressed.

And as for thrillers, which I really enjoy, I read The Book of Names by Jill Gregory and Karen Tinton. Think of it as a Jewish DaVinci Code.  Well done.

Do you have favorite authors?

For years my favorite was Dick Francis but unfortunately he is no longer alive. I love everything I’ve read by Amanda Cabot, Steven James and Philip Yancy, all CBA authors.

What do you find the most enjoyable part of writing or connecting with readers?

I love the brainstorming part of creating a book. I love discussing books with readers. I am first of all a reader, and when I find someone else as passionate as I am about books, we can talk for hours. Without readers, I have no job; so I appreciate them, each and every one.

What do you find the most ideal atmosphere for writing? Do you ever get those surroundings? :- )

Ideal atmosphere? I like a little bit of background noise. I don’t especially enjoy isolation, but neither do I want people interrupting me constantly.  I get those surroundings fairly often, except for my drop-everything-and-take-advantage-of-help-when-offered lifestyle of living in a nursing home.

Okay, something fun for those writers out there: In what point of your writing career did you surprise yourself by writing the most words ever in the shortest amount of time?

July for the last two months—I had August 1st deadlines looming and ill health had forced me to slow down. . .so I was writing huge amounts of books.  For me 4,000 words in a day is huge, and I had to keep that up day after day.
